We got some great news today for student loan borrowers in Minnesota. Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith announced that the state is launching a student debt refinancing program, which will help lower monthly payments for those struggling with student debt.
“This is an important first step to improve college affordability and increase educational opportunities for all students,” Lt. Gov. Tina Smith said in a statement Thursday.
Right now, you can only refinance your loans with greedy private companies out to make a profit off the backs of student loan borrowers’ struggles. Minnesota will now provide an alternative option from a credible, trustworthy source.
We have so much more work to do, but this is a huge step toward relieving student loan borrowers of their burdensome debt.
